Groenland / Daydreaming

Groenland / The Things I’ve Done

My first shoot in a long while and I couldn’t have asked for a better band to start it off. I met up with Groenland at Jean-Vivier’s apartment, which was pretty neat since one of my first shoots with the Tsunami Captain’s was just a block away.

It’s always nice to catch up with the artists that I meet with a beer, before or after I shoot. I’m always interested in their stories because it’s what brought them to this moment. Anyways I just wanted to say I had a lot of fun hanging out, so thanks guys!

The beautiful people of Groenland perform Daydreaming and The Thing’s I’ve Done.

The Usual Suspects / Friends Like These

The Usual Suspects / Heart Beats Slow

The Usual Suspects were the second band I had the chance to film while I was in Toronto. Once again some of my friends referred me to these guys who are an incredibly talented group.

It was so neat to see parts of Toronto I other would have never seen in my life.

For our 39th session, The Usual Suspects perform “Friends Like These” and “Heart Beats Slow”.

Cadé / Semicircles

My band was playing a show in Toronto over Thanksgiving weekend and I made a few Torontonian friends in university who referred me to Kaiya.

I remember that weekend being unbelievably warm, and the weather was too good to be true. I had a bit of time to meet Kaiya at Trinity Bellwoods Park before heading over to the beaches to shoot another band.

It’s good to be back!

The Olympic Symphonium / Stronger

For some reason I confused the address for an address in St-Henri instead of it really being in Outremont. Surprisingly I got there in about 15 minutes by bike. That’s what I really like about Montreal, everything really is close if you bike around. Now if it wasn’t for those damn hills.

I met up with the guys on unfortunately the hottest day of the year in Montreal. I’ve been to Asia, and that day was the hottest day I’ve ever experienced in comparison.

They were kind enough to wait around while I biked over, and I even got to see Tim from Paper Beat Scissors. He was finishing a record in the upstairs apartment that you can see in the video.

For the 37th session, The Olympic Symphonium perform “Stronger”.

The Breezes / Promethean Eyes

I met up with The Breezes at Breakglass Studio. It was my first time going there and the first thing I saw was the huge Neve in the console room. I was really eyeing the amazing collection of NES games in the kitchen… oh and there was some pretty cool instruments around..

I’ve known Daniel and Matt for quite some time and it was so great reminiscing about our high school days. Daniel actually auditioned for my old band Third String years ago. Also, the Schlemm house parties anyone? I really miss that trampoline. And the past altogether. But enough about that!

For the 36th session, The Breezes perform “Promethean Eyes”.

Whitebrow / My Muse

Gabriel contacted me, asking if I’d be free to do a session as he passed through Montreal. He was performing at Cafe Mariposa, which is apparently a few minutes away from where I live.

I’ve been noticing quite a few acts performing there so I should really go take a look and check it out.

We decided to take this shoot in a sweet little alley way in Outremont.

For the 35th session, Whitebrow performs “My Muse”.

Cella Chest / Shameless & Molded

This is the second time I’ve done a sessions with Alex. He’s moved apartments since the last video. A nice bachelor pad on St. Laurent that happens to have the sketchiest way to the rooftop.

We made it alive despite the sun making the roof feel like a cooking pan. It sure was beautiful up there though.

For the 34th session, Cella Chest performs “Shameless & Molded”.

Oliver the Great / Moonwater

I played a show with Oliver the Great a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it was one of those shows where you had to buy your own water after your performance. In the end it was a great night to meet new people and it turned out most of the guys from Oliver the Great knew some people I knew.

Awesome guys, and the first band I got to film in my hood in NDG!

For our 33rd session, Oliver the Great performs “Moonwater” in their own apartment.

Holy Oak / Big Papa Daddy

Holy Oak / Marigold

I saw Neil perform and open for the Enjoy Your Puma’s show and we talked that night about doing a session.

We finally decided to film around his apartment in the Mile-End. Our first take was around the rail tracks off Bernard and Casgrain. Neil also said he knew a of cardboard fortress that we could film in, how could I say no to that?!

For our 32nd session, Holy Oak performs “Big Papa Daddy”.

Cab / Porch Light

Cab / Sweet Summer

Charles, Jon and I decided to meet at the park in St-Henri at the corner of Ave. Laporte and Saint-Antoine., luckily for me, the trust home depot was right around the corner so I could replace the old ones on my laveliers.

The park was so friendly surrounded by beautiful duplex’s. A grey sky was looming over us so we tried to film before it started raining. The boys were prompt and we were quickly on our way. We shot our takes in a jiffy.

I unfortunately missed the opportunity to check out Jaques Cartier’s “Sign of the horns”.

For our 31st session, Cab performs “Porch Light” and “Sweet Summer”.

Burrows / Elephant Shoes

I fell in love with Burrows when I first heard their song “Hygenocide”, a quirky song about being absolutely clean. It’s the lyrics that I adore, of course their musicianship is also amazing.

I met up with Desiree and Liam at Pie-IX metro and headed towards the Olympic Stadium. I pointed to a spot saying “Hey! That’s where Land of Talk and La Blogotheque filmed their shoot!”. We wisely decided not to film in the same location, but rather a few steps away from there..

Burrows currently has a album out titled “Porcupine Hill”, and I highly suggest you check it out! Have fun on your VIA rail performances!

For our 30th session, Burrows performs “Elephant Shoes”.

Enjoy Your Pumas / Band of Mouses

Enjoy Your Pumas / Weight of the Circle

I met up with Enjoy Your Pumas on an extremely rainy day. I’ve been planning to do a shoot at parc St-Viateur for quite some time and I thought today was the day.

I love how they managed to play minimized versions of their songs, and even more so for their performance later on that day at Cagibi. I would love to see them on a bigger set. I hope you guys come back to Montreal soon!

If you get a chance to catch Enjoy Your Pumas, please do so. You definitely will not be disappointed.

For the 29th session, Enjoy Your Pumas perform “Band of Mouses”

Allo Darlin’ / Europe

Elizabeth, Mike, Paul and Bill arrived in Montreal having driven all the way from Boston. I was sitting and waiting for Allo Darlin’ in front of Il Motore on Jean-Talon, where they were going to perform later on that night. The wonderful four piece was kind enough to take up a bit of their time to film a few songs around the venue.

Allo Darlin’ is actually the first band from out of Canada that I’ve showcased, which I think is awesome. Quite. They’ll be touring through the states until mid-June so if any American viewers are watching this video, I highly recommend that you go and check them out.

For the 28th session, Allo Darlin’ performs “Europe”.

Folly and the Hunter / I Was Only Going Out (Loney Dear Cover)

Folly and the Hunter / Cost

It feels like it’s been a while since I made my last session, so what better way to start up again with arguably one of my favorite bands, Folly and the Hunter.

A section of St. Urbain was closed off for some street repairs and we all decided it would be an awesome spot to film. The night before, on the same street, Alain hosted a delicious street BBQ.

For the 27th session, Folly and the Hunter perform a Loney Dear cover, “I Was Only Going Out” and “Cost” for some newfound fans.

Fish & Bird / Boxes & Bottles

Fish & Bird / Space Telescope

I first met Adam and Ryan when I shot O’Mally’s video, they were just about to head out east with the rest of the band.

On their way back from the coast, they stopped through Montreal and we were able to do a beautiful shoot in Westmount Park. Wonderful people with a van that runs on cooking oil, and check out the folding bass!
